What Types of Question are there in British Citizenship Test? - Explained Complete Information

The biggest worry for those appearing for the British citizenship test is the type of questions they will be facing. However, there is no need to fret. The test comes from a single source and with a little practice and diligence; we promise you will crack it in no time.

The source for British citizenship test

As of 25 March 2013, all questions for the UK citizenship test are based on the handbook, Life in the United Kingdom (3rd edition): A Guide for new residents. The handbook can be easily bought from The Stationary Office or any bookshop. It is also available online. For the visually impaired, a CD version is also available.

The handbook has five chapters dealing with the history, society, institutions, traditions and modern life in the UK. There are 24 questions, which you have to answer in 45 minutes. You must score a minimum of 75% to pass the test.

The type of questions in UK citizenship test

The test consists of 24 multiple-choice questions. Under this you will find four types of questions.

  • Choosing a single correct option from a given list: This is the most common type of multiple choice questions where a question will be accompanied with a few options. You have to choose the correct one.
  • True or false: This type of question is phrased as a statement. You will be given two options - true or false. Just click on 'True' if the statement is correct or click on 'False' if it is not.
  • Multiple choice questions: Here the questions will have two correct options and you must select both.
  • Selecting the correct statement: Much like the true and false option, here you will be asked to choose the 'correct' answer. This will be accompanied with two statements. Click on the statement you think is correct.
