ESOL, an Ideal Way for Non-English Speakers to Pass Life in the UK Test

For people who do not have English as their mother tongue and wish to qualify in Life in the UK Test, there is another course which they need to pass. This is ESOL or English for Speakers of Other Languages course. Passing Life in the UK Test is mandatory to acquire citizenship for the UK, which seems somehow daunting for people who do not possess the English language knowledge needed for the same.

The ESOL courses which appear to be an ideal solution for such non-English speakers includes speaking and listening capability, reading and writing modules, vocabulary and also covers punctuation and grammar. For people who reside in the UK and wish to acquire permanent residency here the ESOL courses can be undertaken at many learning centers which are being offered now in many cities and towns in Britain. Also there is an option to choose from full time or part time courses depending upon the person's preferences and time availability.

The many levels of ESOL

There are five levels designated for ESOL-Skills for Life Course which are referred as Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 respectively. The Entry levels aim at checking the applicants core skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing English. Each mode is tested through a test which is paper based and can be attempted when the candidate thinks he/she is ready to take the same. For assessment there are no defined rules as such.

The candidate is first assessed on their knowledge of the English language only after which the instructor of the course suggests about which level to choose. There are helpline numbers available on the website where a candidate can get on phone counseling to know which level they should begin with.

Who must opt for ESOL?

For all those candidates who wish to qualify Life in the UK Test and have English skills below ESOL Level 3 and Intermediate Level 1, if in Scotland, taking up the ESOL course seems obligatory. For all those who are at the level 3 or have better knowledge then the same, they can go ahead and take Life in the UK Test to move one step closer to acquiring the citizenship for the UK.

There is easy help available

For candidates who do not know about which ESOL level to begin there is easy counseling and help available on the helpline which is open the major part of the day. Here easy and quick help and ideal guidance is available for any candidate.
